We are nestled in a beautiful location just off the A92 Coastal Route as you travel the Scenic Trail between the stunning Dunnottar Castle at Stonehaven and the city of Dundee. On the other hand there are Cycle and Walking trails along the coastline connecting up the villages.
This fishing village was one of the largest in Scotland and played an important role in the Herring Industry in the past. Today, lobsters and crabs are the main catch. The harbour is the centre of activity. Of itself it is a perfect spot to sit on a bench and enjoy the view and the sea air.
On the front is our Heritage museum . Take a walk along the sea paths and then perhaps call into the Anchor Inn just up from the harbour to sample some tasty food. Opposite is The Ship Inn which is a quaint place for a relaxing drink, first licensed in 1763. Just lift the latch and enjoy the ambience. Walk along to the end of the street where the Ship Inn is to find a fun filled children's playground. Or you can buy a ,"to go" coffee, sandwich and even a souvenir from the local Johnshaven Stores. It has a most unique stair rail. Visit The Starfish Studio just a few steps away where you can enjoy browsing to find a unique gift . You will love this hidden treasure.
