About Braemar Castle
Situated near the village of Braemar in Royal Deeside, this nearly 400-year-old, community-run castle offers clients a rich and authentic heritage experience. Built in 1628 by the 2nd Earl of Mar, Braemar Castle’s turbulent past spans the Jacobite Uprisings to the present day, brought to life through self-guided and guided tour options suitable for both FIT and group travel. Open year-round, the wider grounds enhance the visit with accessible paths, woodland and timeline trails, a restored Fog House, outdoor games, kitchen garden and picnic areas, alongside a welcome cabin and gift shop.
The castle and grounds are also available for private hire, including drinks receptions (up to 40 pax), falconry displays and marquee events. Located just a 15-minute walk from Braemar village, with on-site parking available, the castle is easy to combine with local dining and Royal Deeside touring, while every visit supports ongoing conservation as one of Scotland’s few community-owned castles.
