About Glen Tanar Estate

Glen Tanar is a 25,000-acre Scottish Highland Estate set in the spectacular Cairngorms National Park in Royal Deeside, close to Balmoral, and provides the perfect base for exploring the outdoors. The estate offers seven luxury self-catering cottages, a historic wedding venue, and a range of unique activities and experiences — including traditional Scottish country sports like deer stalking and salmon fishing.

The estate is home to some of Scotland’s most incredible wildlife, including Golden Eagles, Red Deer, Capercaillie, and Red Squirrels. With a 3,000-acre National Nature Reserve at the core of the estate, including Scotland’s third-largest remaining remnant of the ancient Caledonian Pine Forest, Glen Tanar balances conservation and land/wildlife management through a blend of traditional and modern techniques.

The estate is suitable for individuals, families, FITs, and small or large groups seeking adventure and a taste of the Scottish Highland lifestyle. A range of unique activities and experiences is available for groups of all sizes.

Duration: 1-1.5 hours

Experience Includes:

Take an exclusive short walking tour around the Glen Tanar Ballroom and estate grounds with a member of the estate team.
The tour covers some of the following topics: the estate’s Royal connections, historic buildings, the practice of deer stalking, the incredible array of wildlife, the role and lifestyle of a Highland Ghillie, and the unique habitat at Glen Tanar.
Participants can ask the tour guide questions, take photographs in the estate’s beautiful grounds, and hold a set of Red Deer stag antlers.
Wet weather provisions include the use of the Glen Tanar Ballroom.
Depending on requirements, the tour can focus on one of three themes: History & Heritage, Highland Culture & Tradition, or Unique Wildlife & Habitat.

Facilities: Toilets, car park, and coach turning area.

Addition Information:

Smaller groups and FITs are welcome. Minimum charge applies.
Includes: Taste of Venison – tea, coffee, and an individual Wark Farm Venison dish using Glen Tanar venison.
